Please give us some more details on your account, Crooked Little House. How did you develop it, and what sets it apart from the rest?

I joined Instagram years ago for another source of décor inspiration. As I found inspiration from others, I also wanted to return that inspiration and began sharing my home and DIY projects. I want to share ways others can add beauty and functionality to their homes through DIY and a little out-of-the-box thinking.

Did you do a remodel on your entire home? If so, were there specific rooms that were more challenging than others? Why?

We actually built our own home! We did a lot of the work ourselves. My husband is an architect, and it’s been a long-time dream come true.

How did you choose the hardware featured in this project? What attracted you to Grandeur Hardware?

My husband chose our front door – a tall 9’ beauty! I knew it needed a stunning handle set to match as soon as I saw it. I had come across Grandeur Hardware on Instagram and couldn’t stop thinking about how luxurious the hardware was.

How long did this project take to complete?

It was about 9 months from the day we started clearing land until we moved in. Technically, we’re still finishing up some things, but it feels like the main “project” of building the house is finished.

Will you use this hardware again in other projects/areas of your home? If so, why?

I would definitely shop Grandeur for future hardware needs. The quality is better than any other entry hardware I’ve seen, and the customer service was terrific.

Did you learn any tips and tricks about door hardware along the way that you think would be beneficial for others?

Patience. Don’t rush installing your hardware. It’s worth taking the time to get the installation right.

What is your design style, and how do you incorporate those decorating decisions within your home?

A little bit modern, a bit traditional, a splash of vintage, and a healthy dose of plants… It sounds a little all over the place, but I think you can bring a lot of design elements together if you can find a relationship between them. Maybe a common color or flow or even being opposites.

When starting a project, how do you organize and plan for it?

I always start with research. I figure out the pros and cons, what will work best, and where I can find what I’m looking for. I use Pinterest and Instagram to find images and videos to inspire and give me a jumping-off point. From there, I often sketch out my ideas, make lists, write down each major step to completion, and make a purchase list. Then I jump into the doing part!

How did/do you go about choosing a house to buy and renovate?

Since we were designing our own home, it was all about finding the right property. The land we were looking for was not easy to find in our area, but the perfect property became available at just the right time. I sent my husband some floor plan ideas and a list of my “must-haves.” Then he did the magic!

Many people want to take on large remodeling projects. What are some recommendations for readers who wish to do an extensive remodel project?

Expect the unexpected. Whether renovating or building from the ground up, you will run into things you weren’t prepared for. Learn to roll with it and get creative!

What are some tips for readers who wish to make a transformation in their home?

At some point, you have to take a risk. Give something new a try, and don’t be afraid of making mistakes!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Good design is in the details. Find something grand and beautiful that makes you smile and add that thing into your space. You’ll never go wrong with the things you love!

Thanks to Brittany for her sharing this project!
