THE START
Most companies use hollow brass knobs, zinc levers finished to look like brass, and glass instead of crystal. At Grandeur, we use solid brass knobs, the highest quality forging brass in all of our hardware and 24% lead-crystal knobs. Using the highest quality materials enables us to produce the finest quality finished products.

We hand-polish and hand-finish every piece to ensure that a piece made today will match those we make years from now.

At Grandeur, we build our products to provide hundreds of thousands of worry-free cycles. So, while our locks are beautiful to look at, they also include features like spring-assisted knobs and levers, to make them robust. In addition, our locks are backed by the industry’s best lifetime warranty.
OUR FORGING PROCESS
Although some lock manufacturers use cheaper cast or stamped brass, Grandeur uses only hot-forged brass. This process yields a denser, stronger brass that can accurately display the intricacies of our beautiful, timeless designs. The photos below demonstrate (from left to right) how a solid brass billet becomes a finished piece of luxury hardware.
CUT
We begin with a billet of special forging brass cut to size. The metallurgy of this brass is specifically designed to create strength and detail.
PRESS
We heat the billet in an electric furnace until it’s red-hot. Then, we press (forge) it into a tool the shape of the hardware. This process utilizes extremely high pressure to create very fine details.
TRIM
After the brass has cooled, we trim-away the excess and recycle it into new billets. Each piece is inspected for even the most minute defects.
POLISH
Experienced craftsmen rough-polish each piece by hand, using progressively finer abrasives.
BUFF
Final hand-buffing with rouge creates a mirror-like shine. For the Polished Brass (PB) finish, we then use an electrophoretic process to evenly apply the clear, durable coating.
FINISH
Finishes like Vintage Brass (above), are aged and hand-relieved prior to electrophoretic coating.
EASY TO INSTALL
By keeping the homeowner in mind, we have kept things simple whenever we can. Our modern tubular latch is designed to be easily oriented to a door, even after it is installed. Deadbolts use the standard Schlage C-keyway.
Pre-Mounted knobs and levers, make for clean and easy installation. A floating spindle allows for minor trim alignment errors and we have eliminated problem parts such as exposed spindle springs that can jam, and set screws which can harm the finish durability of decorative trim and which often work themselves loose.
