Featured Blogger: Our Fifth House
Our latest Featured Blogger is Carmel, who produces Our Fifth House. The blog chronicles her family’s adventures in home building and décor and often shares DIY and style tips and trend information. Carmel is in the process of finishing her seventh house and recently wrote a blog on painting walls and choosing door hardware. See why Grandeur Hardware was the perfect choice for her latest home.
The current house is a new build rather than the typical remodel the family chooses. Since new construction can often lack the character found in an older home, Carmel’s design goal was to give this new house an old soul. She believes in making your home your happy place and that home projects should be fun, not complicated. When choosing designs, he follows the saying, “A home should reflect the personality of the people who live under its roof.”
Carmel’s style is definitely a mix- it doesn’t really fit into one specific category. She loves mixing old with new, modern with traditional, and is a big fan of color and pattern. Both Ralph Lauren and Miles Redd are her interior style icons. And as much as she loves and appreciates the design inspiration that now lives online via Pinterest and Instagram, she still loves sitting down to flip through the glossy pages of her favorite decor magazines: Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Domino, and Better Homes & Gardens.
As for readers who want to do a large remodel project or make a small transformation, Carmel believes the details in design are what make a space sing. Lighting and hardware can completely transform any room, so her best advice is to be sure to account for even the smallest details in the renovation budget.
Since she is such a big believer in the power of design details, Carmel knew right from the start of the new build that she wanted quality craftsmanship that was both timeless and eye-catching. What initially drew her to Grandeur Hardware is the fact that we offer the most extensive options for customization. For the doorknobs specifically, she wanted something chic and classic, and the Fifth Avenue Plate with the Bordeaux Crystal Knob definitely checked those boxes. The backplate in Vintage Brass is absolutely stunning and looks incredible with the tall ceilings and doors. There’s no doubt the family will love this hardware forever!
During the process of choosing hardware, Carmel learned that forged brass is better than cast metal. She said, “I am 1,000% happy with my decision to have these doorknobs and hinges installed on every single interior door throughout our new home. They not only look gorgeous, but they feel so substantial in hand too! You can definitely feel the difference in this hardware as opposed to so many other brands.”
Thanks to Carmel for sharing her story with us, we can’t wait to watch as you finish your new home!
