Although some lock manufacturers use cheaper cast or stamped brass, Grandeur® uses only hot-forged brass. This process yields a denser, stronger brass that can accurately display the intricacies of our beautiful, timeless designs. The photos below demonstrate (from left to right) how a solid brass billet becomes a finished piece of luxury hardware.
We begin with a billet of special forging brass. The metallurgy of this brass is specifically designed to create strength and detail.
The billet is cut and shaped to size in order to best prepare the brass for the pressing stage.
We heat the billet in an electric furnace until it’s red-hot. Then, we press (forge) it into a tool the shape of the hardware.
After the brass has cooled, we trim away the excess and recycle it into new billets. Each piece is inspected for even the most minute defects.
For consistency and quality, every piece is precision polished before being finished.
Each piece is sealed with a special lacquer to set the finish for life.
