Hi Stephanie! Please give us some more details on The Broadmoor House. How did you develop it, and what sets it apart?

I started The Broadmoor House when we were building a new home. It was initially just to document the build, but it was never meant to be a long-term project! It gained more traction than I anticipated, and I began treating it more like a business. When COVID hit while we were moving in, it seemed like everyone was invested in how we would make it a home, mainly since many others were focusing on that too!

Did you remodel your entire home? If so, were there specific rooms that were more challenging than others? Why?

We did not remodel the entire home. It was only a few years old when we purchased it, so most of the house was in great shape. However, there were a few areas where we wanted to make the home feel a little less “builder-grade” and a bit more custom. We focused on the kitchen, living room, and primary bathroom. The kitchen came together naturally because I had all these designs in my head for years and knew exactly what direction I wanted to take. The primary bathroom, however, was a bit more challenging to design because we struggled to pick the right flooring!

How did you choose the hardware featured in this project? What attracted you to Grandeur Hardware?

One thing that can change the overall look of a home is the "jewelry": lighting and hardware. You can elevate the home significantly by changing these elements to nicer materials and designs. Door handles are things that people touch in your home and really notice. When researching which brand to use in my home, Grandeur was hands-down my top pick! Speaking of jewelry, the black crystal knobs added so much glam and sophistication to the space. I also love the lifetime brass on the other pieces. Hardware is never a place to skimp on your budget!

Will you use this hardware again in other projects/areas of your home? If so, why?

I would absolutely use Grandeur on any future projects! I’ve already replaced all the knobs in this house, but Grandeur will always be my go-to when sharing with my followers and for any future homes.

Did you learn any tips and tricks about home hardware that would benefit others?

I definitely have a few tips when picking out your hardware. First, quadruple-check the number of door knobs you need! We did this, and we were still off by a few. It wasn’t a big deal, but it’s very easy to miscount! Also, consider the finishes you already have in your home. If you're adding new hardware to every door, consider it an opportunity to introduce a finish you’d like to incorporate. We paired most of the plumbing fixtures in our old house with a chrome door handle, allowing us to be freer when mixing, and I thought they looked beautiful together! Lastly, if you're repainting your doors at the same time, be sure to sand any marks where the previous door handles were. This ensures the new ones look like they’ve always been there!

What is your design style, and how do you incorporate those decorating decisions within your home?

I don’t like to say that I only have one style. I love so many different styles! I’ve been experimenting with new projects outside my usual comfort zone, and it’s been so fun! I tend to lean a little modern, a little traditional, and a little European. Mixing those clean lines with intricate details can really create a beautiful juxtaposition.

Where do you find design inspiration?

I find design inspiration all around me! Whether it’s a piece of decor I see in a store, a pattern on a dress, or even the architecture we encounter during our travels! I love noticing small details, so even something as simple as a fun color play on a bottle of lotion can inspire a room’s design.

When starting a project, how do you organize and plan for it?

When trying to put together a design for a space, I love to use the Canva app! It allows you to gather different fixtures, tile ideas, patterns, and more and put them into a collage to see how everything flows. You need the right balance of items to serve as the jewelry, the supporting elements, and the focal point!

How did/do you choose a house to buy and renovate?

The house we decided to renovate was an easy choice for us! There are only a couple of neighborhoods that feed into the school our kids go to. We needed a little more space with a bigger backyard, and we found this house in the same neighborhood we were living in! Several things about the house were an upgrade from where we were, like a wine fridge, a nugget ice maker, and even larger, nicer windows. The only thing missing was a slight design touch, which we were able to add!

Many people want to take on large remodeling projects. What are some recommendations for readers who wish to do an extensive remodel project?

My biggest recommendation when doing an extensive remodel project is to find a contractor who understands your vision and can take the reins for you! We chose to work with a contractor instead of piecing together different trades ourselves because he has a great list of trusted professionals. For the sake of time, this was a massive help in keeping the project on track.

What are some tips for readers who wish to transform their home?

One of my biggest tips when designing a new space is not worrying about trends but picking things you genuinely love! Your love for something will outlast any trend. Also, unique designs often make decorating less expensive and easier. You don’t have to try hard to make a space look beautiful!

Are you working on any other properties or projects besides your own home?

As a social media home blogger, I do not personally help others with design. Interior designers can be expensive, though often worth it. However, I am free to follow! We have multiple years’ worth of home inspiration, product round-ups, reviews, and styling videos across our Instagram, Facebook, LTK, and Amazon storefronts; all updated daily! I’ve had followers message me saying they’ve spent so much on an interior designer when they feel like they would have loved their home more if they had followed me earlier and dove into all our favorite things and inspiration.

Thanks to Stephanie for a great partnership and for sharing her home with us!
