As a previous user of Grandeur Hardware, blogger Joanna Hawley-McBride wanted to install all new Grandeur products in her latest home renovation. Her blog, Jojotastic, is an excellent resource for those interested in interior styling and exploring nature. Read on to learn more about Joanna and her unfiltered style.
What is your design style, and how do you incorporate those decorating decisions within your home?
My favorite design style isn’t really a style at all. Instead, I love the idea of curating a home filled with pieces you love! I also find it hard to pick just one aesthetic, so instead, I combine them all into a space I love that feels like the best representation of our vibes.
Where do you find design inspiration?
All over the place: Pinterest, magazines, set design in movies. I find that I am most creative when I’ve taken time away from tech to explore the great outdoors.
When starting a project, how do you organize and plan for it?
I always start with a secret Pinterest board to organize images that speak to me and the products I am considering for the space. From there, I make a mood board in Photoshop so I can visualize it all together.
Did you do a remodel on your entire home? If so, were there specific rooms that were more challenging than others? Why?
We’re about 50% of the way through renovating our cabin. The most challenging room so far has been our main bedroom suite. It’s got a really weird layout and very low ceilings, so we’ve had to get creative.
How long did this project take to complete?
We’re still working on it, to be honest! Since we live in such a remote area, finding contractors to finish work is a challenge, so we do as much as we can every weekend, and it will eventually get there.
How did you choose the hardware featured in this project? What attracted you to Grandeur Hardware?
I’ve been a long-time fan of Grandeur Hardware, especially after installing exterior hardware at our first house. It aged so well, and the quality is astounding. For this project, I wanted our hardware to make a statement against our green doors and add style to the cabin.
Will you use this hardware again in other projects/areas of your home? If so, why?
I would definitely use this hardware again! As I said, the quality is always so wonderful, and I love the different styles available.
Did you learn any tips and tricks about door hardware along the way you think would benefit others?
For this project, I learned a lot more than expected about hinges! I didn’t realize there were so many options for the tips. Even though I kept it simple with button tips, I look forward to trying something new and more of a statement in the future.
Many people want to take on large remodeling projects. How do you go about choosing a house to buy and renovate?
We always start by making sure to look within our budget! From there, it’s all about looking for potential. We knew there was immense potential with the cabin thanks to the fifteen-foot ceilings, open floor plan, and exposed timbers.
What are some recommendations for readers who want to do a large remodel project in their home?
My #1 piece of advice is to allot more time to a renovation than you think you’ll need! We are behind schedule for literally every renovation because something always pops up. I also recommend stocking up on renovation essentials like painter’s tape, brushes, and drill bits – you never know!
Please give us some more details on Jojotastic. How did you develop it, and what sets it apart from the rest?
The blog started as a place to share what was inspiring me when I worked as an in-house textile designer. Once I started getting serious about decorating my home, the topic shifted towards that… and then even more so once I bought my first house! I like to think that my site is different because it’s all about the non-traditional lifestyle my husband and I have chosen, including living in the mountains, spending as much time in nature as possible, and renovating a cabin while living in it full-time! I’m pretty sure there aren’t very many people wild enough to move out of the city on a whim as we did.
Thank you to Joanna for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. We will be following along as you continue to update it!
